- Purpose
- Used to treat various bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin infections, and dental infections.
- Combines an antibiotic with a beta-lactamase inhibitor (clavulanic acid) to overcome bacterial resistance.
- How It Works
- Amoxicillin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial death.
- Clavulanic acid inhibits beta-lactamase enzymes produced by bacteria that would otherwise deactivate amoxicillin, thereby extending its spectrum of activity.
- How to Take
- Take exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider.
- Usually taken 1 tablet every 12 hours or as directed.
- Can be taken with food or after meals to reduce stomach upset.
- Swallow tablets whole with water; do not crush or chew.
- Complete the full course of therapy even if you start feeling better.
